Just came home from seeing Leatherheads, the new George Clooney screwball/football comedy, which was quite entertaining.

Luckily, not much knowledge of football required. I get my football knowledge, meager as it is, from Friday Night Lights, and if you watch that show then you already know that a person ain’t going to learn much about the game from it.
Leatherheads, luckily, is all about the witty banter and fabulous clothes: two areas in which I consider myself no slouch. Witness here the always adorable John Krasinski, who has always been my boyfriend, but is even moreso now that I have been made aware of his involvement in this. (OMG!!!) Please to enjoy his dapper vest and winning smile.

Clooney also looked fabulous - can I tell you how much I covet this brown leather jacket?

But, for me, the real star of the show was Zellweger’s amazing collection of hats and coats. Not only the fab outfit she is wearing on the back of the bike above, but the extremely excellent ensemble below. I think I might murder a person for that hat!

The hat she’s wearing in her first scene is incredibly amazing, with an ostentatious feather jutting out at a rakish angle. Unfortunately, that’s its only scene as she leaves it behind. Couldn’t find any pictures of it, so you’ll just have to go see the film yourself.
i love john krasinski, though i suspect that i really just love jim halpert. re: renee zellweger’s wardrobe: i felt the same way about drew barrymore’s hair, clothes, and makeup in “fever pitch.” seriously, it’s worth watching just for that. it’s like a 90-minute fashion spread. plus, it’s the first thing i’ve seen ione skye in since “four rooms.”
Oh, I saw Fever Pitch a long time ago, but now I absolutely can’t think of what she was wearing in it. Will maybe have to see it again for fashion purposes.
Lurking on your blog (now blogs) whenever I’m procrastinating about my own papers awaiting grading, I’ve been astounded to find that I’ve never disagreed with your pop culture tastes. Until now. Oh, how I wanted to like this movie! John Krasinski is the ultimate TV boyfriend (my love of Spike, Logan Echolls, etc. cannot blind me to the undeniable flaws they’d have as actual boyfriends) and the clothes were wonderful ( but I was annoyed by Renee Zellweger’s character leaving that first hat behind after their calling so much attention to it, also by her odd handling of her cigarette in that first scene). I also get all my football knowledge from FNL, but was charmed by 20s football. George Clooney is charming too. But no amount of willpower on my part could let me claim this movie worked. The lowest point was that odd slapstick police chase, but even many of the screwball elements didn’t really work. The dialogue, especially between Zellweger and Clooney, tried too hard and sounded stale and recycled. Some of it was the oldest of old jokes turned into dialogue (though I can’t think of specific example right now).
Actually, however, I’m glad you liked it and are recommending it. I want people to like this kind of movie so they make more. I just hope next time one is made, I can like it too.
Aw, I liked the dialogue — it had that “classic” ring to it, which is maybe what they were going for with the familiar jokes. With film reviews for ladies, though, i try to only focus on the superficial aspects, hence, hats! (Honestly I do think the hats were the best part — and all of the other elements making up the overall look of the film. It was just a good-looking film!)
I guess I’m a little slow…I didn’t get the film-reviews-for-ladies concept. And you’re completely right: it was a gorgeous film.
